It's creator, Ralph Lysell, was an eccentric industrial designer born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1907. He moved to the United States at age 16. Abroad he took night classes at Columbia University in New York, and in 1936 he entered the auto industry with a self designed futuristic streamlined car that he wanted to mass produce. Stockholm native and industrial designer Ralph Lysell, a lesser-known automotive visionary, came to the United States between the wars with dreams of building his own car. Gösta Thames, Ralph Lysell, Hugo Blomberg - Ericsson, Cobra, Ericofon - Telefon, med original kasse - Plast Sverige - 1950-1974 I am now selling a white, vintage Ericsson Ericofon, in very good condition. In the early 1930s the Swedish company Ericsson switched from using sheet metal to form the base and handset of the traditional desk telephone to Bakelite, an early form of plastic. Twenty years later, with the availability of new, easily molded plastics, Ericsson’s designers transformed the phone’s appearance, essentially turning the handset by 90 degrees and incorporating the dial in its by Gösta Thames, Ralph Lysell, and Hugo Blomberg The Ericofon was manufactured by the Ericsson Company in Sweden and can be considered a big step in the telephone design industry. The phone was designed as one piece from plastic materials.
